Hijri Age Calculator

ہجری عمر کیلکولیٹر · हिजरी उम्र

Paidaish ki English tareekh se apni Islami (Hijri) umar aur agli Hijri saalgirah jaaniye.

How to use the Hijri age calculator

Choose your date of birth from the calendar and press Calculate my Hijri age. You will see your age on the Islamic (Hijri) calendar in years, months and days next to your ordinary Gregorian age, the Hijri date you were born on, how many days you have lived, and the date of your next Hijri birthday. If you were born after sunset, tick the box: the Islamic day begins at Maghrib, so your Hijri birth date is the following day.

Why your Hijri age is higher

The Hijri calendar is lunar. Allah says: "Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months" (Quran 9:36), and "It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases — that you may know the number of years and account [of time]" (Quran 10:5). Each month runs from one new crescent to the next, 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year has 354 or 355 days — about 11 days fewer than the 365-day solar year.

Those 11 days add up. A Hijri year is about 3% shorter, so you gain roughly one extra Hijri year for every 33 solar years. Someone who is exactly 30 by the English calendar is about 30 years and 11 months old in Hijri terms, and someone who is 60 is nearly 62 Hijri years old. That is also why Ramadan and Eid arrive about 11 days earlier on the English calendar each year, and why a person sees the same Islamic month in every season over a lifetime.

How the calculation works

The calculator converts your date of birth and today's date to the Umm al-Qura calendar using the Islamic calendar support built into your browser, then subtracts them just as you would subtract two ordinary dates — borrowing from the previous month when needed, using that month's real length of 29 or 30 days. Your next Hijri birthday is the same Hijri day and month in the coming Hijri year. If you were born on the 30th and that month has only 29 days next year, the 29th is shown instead.

Moon sighting and accuracy

In India and Pakistan, Islamic months begin with local moon sighting, while Umm al-Qura is a calculated calendar, so a date can differ by one day. That can move your Hijri birth date, and therefore the day count, by a day. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Start fasting on seeing the crescent, and give up fasting on seeing the crescent, and if the sky is overcast, complete thirty days of Sha'ban" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1909). For religious dates, follow your local moon-sighting committee. This calculator is for information: knowing your age on the Islamic calendar, or finding a family member's Hijri birth date for records. To convert any single date, use our Hijri date converter.

FAQ / Aksar pooche jaane wale sawal

Why am I older in Hijri years?

A Hijri year is 354 or 355 days, about 11 days shorter than a solar year. Over about 33 solar years those days add up to one extra Hijri year.

How accurate is my Hijri age?

It is exact for the Umm al-Qura calendar. Because India and Pakistan start months by local moon sighting, your Hijri birth date may differ by one day, which changes the day count by one.

I was born in the evening. Which Hijri date is mine?

The Islamic day starts at sunset. If you were born after Maghrib, tick 'Born after sunset' so your Hijri birth date moves to the next day.

What if I was born on the 30th of a Hijri month?

Some months have only 29 days. If your birth month has 29 days in the coming year, the calculator shows the 29th as your next Hijri birthday.
